Y.M.C.A. ACTIVITIES.

MEETING OF DIRECTORS. The monthly meeting of the Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors was held last evening. The president, Mr. H. M. Peacock, presided. The general 1 secretary’s report for November indicated increased activity in the Junior Department, with a falling off in the Senior Department. The latter was due to the closing of winter activities. Reference was made to the successful series of meetings held in connection with the world week of prayer, which marked a very considerable step forward on those of previous years. In addition to the usual routine and the week of prayer functions, the Junior Department had held cycle trips, paper chases, and the Mother and Daughter Tea. The new organisation, tho Knights of St. James, had held one meeting during the month, when the second stage badge had been presented. .

Appreciation was expressed to all who had helped to make the annual concert the great success it was. The entertainment had presented a small profit to the association.

Details were given of the many fields of service entered by the association in Masterton to-day and it was more than ever apparent how important a part the Y.M.C.A. played in the community.

The tug-of-war committee reported on the difficulty experienced in getting town teams into a tournament before the Christmas season, which decided the committee to postpone the tournament till the New Year. Entries from country teams were very gratifying. The Ladies’ Auxiliary advised the directors of its intention to hold ti monster garden party in February, and asked their co-operation. This request received the cordial consent of the directors.

The general secretary reported on the visit of the Young Australia League’s Band and concert party to Masterton on January 4, and it was decided to support efforts made to facilitate arrangements.

The proposal of the general secretary to organise a camp for the boys of relief workers met with the approval of the directors who heartily commended the project. Appreciation was expressed of the action of the Women’s National Welfare League and the Rotary Club in voting £5 respectively to this camp, and the hope was expressed that the £5 or £lO still needed would be forthcoming, from interested citizens. Mention was made of the combined Christian Service to be held in the Park at 7 o’clock on Sunday morning next, and members were urged to avail themselves of this special feature organised by the youth of the churches.
