PRIMARY EDUCATION.
MEETING OF CARTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
GROUND IMPROVEMENTS.
The Carterton District High School Committee met on Monday evening, Mr. J. M. Nicholls (chairman) presiding.
Advice was received from the Education Board that Miss E. Muir, of Horopito, had been appointed tn_the school teaching staff. The board‘also advised that it was proposed to erect a rew fuel shed on the southern boundary at the old school, but that the matter of improvements to the playing area would have to be deferred until later in the year, when the weather would be more suitable for the work. It was resolved that the hedge on the High Street frontage at the old school be trimmed to the fence level. The attention of the board is to be directed to necessary improvements to the drainage at the old school, and an estimate obtained as to the cost of improving the fire places, with a view to approaching the board to have the work carried out.
The headmaster reported the average attendance at the primary side senool, 100; tne roll number, 107; main school, 274; roll number, 289. Secondary, 49; roll number, 51.
Mr. L. J. Aplin was appointed visitor for the month. The committee i® to meet at tha side school on Saturday afternoon to go into the question of laying out the grounds.
