WELLINGTON RABBITSKIN SALE
Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report, Wellington, June 30:—The second rabbitskin sale of the season was held ■ to-day before a moderate attendance of exporters and furriers. Adverse reports have been received from the Home and foreign markets, and only to-day a cable was received from London advising that owing to the poor demand the sales fixed for July 20 have been cancelled! At the present time there is a large weight of skins held in London, and until these are cleared off we cannot look for any material alteration in rates for some considerable time. We were prepared for very low rates, and all grades, with the exception of good winters, were difficult to quit. Included in the offering was a quantity of incoming and early winters, with a sprinkling of blacks. We would advise trappers not to forward any consignments of skins such as summers, springs, milkys, runners, etc., as the prices bid hardly cover forwarding and other charges. Weevily skins are of no commercial value. For a few small parcels of winters, correctly stretched end fatted, the furriers paid good prices, early winter does bringing up to 313 d, first bucks to 28|d, second early winters to 27d, incoming and early winter blacks to 20d, second does spotted to 164 d. The following is the range of prices: Runners, to |d, summers, |d to sd; milkys, to id, autumns, 3£d to 7d; dawny autumns, lfd to 2{d; early autumns, 3£d to fid; late autumns, s|d to 93d; racks, Id to l|d; early winters, to 18£d: first early winter does, to 31d; first winter does, to Slid; 2nd winter does (spotted), to Ifijd; first winter bucks, to 283 d; 2nd winter bucks (spotted), to 20d; inc. and early winter blacks, to 20d; first early winter bucks, to 19d; hareskins, no bid; weevily and broken, no value.
