CONVERSION LOAN.
RESULT A MAGNIFICENT SUCCESS. ESTIMATES BY OFFICIALS. 97 PER CENT. OF TOTAL. SYDNEY, September 1. Estimates compiled by the offio ials of the Commonwealth Bank indicate that the conversion loan has been a magnificent success. It is expected that 97 per cent, of the total of £556,000,000 will have been converted when the final figures are disclosed. DESPERATE REMEDY. PUTTING THE HOUSE IN ORDER. (Received Tuesday 7 p.m.) LONDON, September I. All London papers publish the success of Australia’s conversion loan. The Daily Telegraph” financial editor describes it as a desperate remedy for a desperate situation. Certainlv, it now seems that Australia is likely to be one of the first nations to set its financial house in order. The “Daily Express” says no other countrv has made such demands on the stoic qualities of Its people.
