F/.luchistan message states that the recent earthquake wrought appalling havoc and completely changed the face of the countryside over a vast area, whole hillsides crashing into valleys and towns' and villages _ being razed.. There were over two hundred shocks in two days. The deathroll is at present unknown, but is believed to be very heavy. Hundreds of injured are without food, water and medical aid. Many thousands fled panic-stricken from the towns, ten thousand leaving Quetta a few hours after the first shock. An alarming incident was the collapse of the gaol, f/deing 473 .prisoners, mostly frontier tribesmen of the wildest character. A young Moslem Government officer gallantly rode through the darkness to Quetta for military aid over roads quaking and hillsides crashing down. Troops despatched from Quetta found the prisoners cowering in the ruins too terror-stricken to 'escape.
