AN UNEVENTFUL YEAR.

SOOTH AFRICAN VETERANS’ ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the annual report, to be presented at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Branch of the South African War Veterans’ Association, on June 20: “The year just ended has hardly been an eventful one. There nave been very few calls for assistance from our Wairarapa comrades, which in hard times such as we "re passing through is a good sign that the South African veterans are able to look after themselves. Early in August the annual reunion was held at Carterton. We had as guests Major P. De B. Brandon and Captain J. J. Clark, from Wellington, and Air. Rushton, of the Wanganui branch. Our Carterton comrades spared no effort to make the evening a success, and our thanks are due to Comrades Lindop and Hart. On September 24 I attended the annual conference of South African Veterans at Wellington. During the year one of our comrades was granted the old age pension, thanks to head iffice. Another comrade has got on his feet again after a big struggle. We, were able to give some assistance in this case. We regret that General Hart has left us, but appreciate the honour that has been bestowed upon him We shall miss his ready help and advice. Our late president, Comrade Miller, has been super-annuated from the Department of Agriculture, and I think you will all agree with me in wishing him many years of well-earned .est, and hope they will be spent in our midst. Our membership has increased slightly, and now stands at 23 and 4 honorary members. The finances of the tranch are in keeping with the times. Our balance sheet shows a debit of one penny. During the year one of our comrades has passed away. A copy of our journal, “The Veteran,’’ has been sent to every South African Veteran in the district, but owing to the lack of funds we will not be able to do it this year. Only financial members will receive it. Thanks are due to head office for the trouble they have taken to assist our branch, and to the Soldiers’ Club for again allowing us the use of a room. In conclusion, I would like to place on record my appreciation of Comrade. Norris’s services; he is a most able secretary 1 and has borne the brunt of the year’s work.—(Signed) E. J. Wright, President.”
