FALL OF 350 FEET.
FEATHERSTON RESIDENTS’ NARROW ESCAPE. ACCIDENT ON RIMUTAKAS. Two residents of Featherston, Horace Nelson Tulloch, single, aged about 30, and a man named McTamney, of the Post Office Ftaff, had a miraculous escape from death when they were precipitated over the side of the Rimutaka Road at about eleven o’clock on Friday night. The accident occurred near the summit of the hill, on the Wairarapa side. It appears that the driver pulled well over to the side of the road to avoid a small slip when the edge of the road gave way and the car and its ' occupants were hurled down to the bottom of the gully, a distance of about 250 feet. Both men were thrown out and were for a time unconscious. Regaining their senses, both men, who had become separated, walked home. Mr. McTamney escaped with a severe shaking, but Mr. Tulloch was not so fortunate, it being found necessary to insert 37 stitches in his head. He was admitted to Dr. Sharpe’s Private Hospital and is reported to be progressing. The ear was completely wrecked.
