NEW BLOOD & YOUNG.
ENGLAND'S: REQUIREMENTS FOR TEST CRICKET. PROSPECTS OF RECAPTURING THE ASHES. HOBBS SEES NO CHANCE. (Received Monday, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 24. The “Daily Herald” publishes an interview with Hobbs, in which he says he does not see any chance of England recapturing the Ashes in the next series of tests. “We are faced with a tremendous task. England wants new blood and young blood, but I ’ cannot see where it is coming from. There is a dearth of bowlers of all kinds in England, while Australia has quite a number of promising youngsters. We have nobody equal to them. I can see only seven certainties for the next visit to Australia. They are Sutcliffe, Hammond, Leyland, Duleepsinhji, Duckworth, Wyatt and Peebles.” GLOUCESTER MATCH. RESUMPTION IN FINE WEATHER. JACKSON OUT. (Received This Day, 1.15 a.m.) LONDON, August 25. The cricket match between Australia and Gloucester was resumed in fine weather and on a good wicket. Australia in the first innings, have lost one wicket for 42 (Ponsford, not out, 28; Jackson, b Goddard, 8; extras, 6).
