SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS. (“The Age” Special.) The death took place at Scarborough, England, on Friday last, of Mrs. Alice Haste, late of Petone, and mother of Mr Wm. L. Haste, of Carterton. The late Mrs. Haste was 61 years of age. Golf. The games for the ladies’ silver and bronze medals, played by the Carterton Golf Club on the Taratahi links on Saturday, resulted:—Senior: Mrs. Steel 93, 8, 85; junior, Mrs. Davison, 112. 36, 76; Mrs. Stubbs, 115, 35, 80; nine-hole players, Miss D. The friends of Mrs. Bowe, Underhill Road, Featherston, will regret to learn that she has found it necessary to enter Dr. Sahrpe’s Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Barton, of Wellington, spent the week-end in Featherston, and were the guests of their daughter, Mrs. E. F. Trustrum. Miss McDonald is spending the school vacation with her parents in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Parry, of Waipukurau, are spending a few days in Featherston where they are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. Watson. Misses G. and A- Clark spent the week-end in Featherston. Mr. and Mrs. Boyes, of Featherston, are visiting Nelson for the school vacation. Mr. and Mrs. C. Rea, Featherston, returned yesterday after spending a few days in Wellington. Mr E. Walden is visiting the Hermitage, Mt. Cook, during the school vacation. Miss M. Thompson is spending a few days in Pahiatua. Miss Jean Brash, Featherston, left on Saturday for Dannevirke, where she intends to spend the holidays. Mr. G'. Murphy spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Murphy, Featherston. Miss Winifred Carter left on Saturday, for Ashhurst, where she intends to spend the (School vacation. Misses Margaret and Joan Leach are spending • the holidays • with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leach, of Featherston. _ Messrs. W. Benton and N. C. C. Shepherd have returned to Featherston after spending a few days in Wanganui. Mr. J. Leach has reutrned to Wellington after a visit to Featherston. Mr. T. Barton spent the week-end in Featherston. MARTINBOROUGH. (The “Age” Special.) Mr. and Mrs E. Tyler, Rotorua, are visiting Mrs A. Tyler. Miss Edith McDonald has returned from Woodville, where she has been for some weeks. Prior to her departure from Martinborough, Miss Enson was the recipient of several presentations, the teaching staff giving her a golf bag, her sewing class a sylonite brush and comb and her pupils a suit case and a pair of motor gloves. On Saturday afternoon the pupils of Mr. F. H. Taylor held their usual term concert in the Parish Hall, when there was a large attendance of parents, ex-pupils and friends. Among those performing were Misses T. Taylor, Philpot, R. Kershaw, R. Thomas, BP. Fittis, E. Hore, Blundell, Hewitt, A. and F. Webb, W. McKay, Campbell, McLeod, K. Smith, 8. Mcpay, Herrick, Yule, Fiufilay, Grant, also Masters Fleury, Ellis, Boughton and Peter and Paul Taylor. At the conclusion of the concert Mrs Taylor was presented with a lovely posy of violets and primroses by Miss Topsy Taylor. Mr. C. Michel, on behalf of past and present pupils and friends said a few words in ap- * preciation of Mr. Taylor and expressed reat regret that he was no longer teaching in Martinborough. He then presented Mr. Taylor with a fireside chair as a small token of regard. Afternoon tea was served later, the room being decorated with daffodils and spring flowers. ALFREDTON. (“The Age” Special.) On Friday afternoon, pupils, parents and members of the Alfredton School Committee assembled at the local hall to farewell Mr. and Mrs. Slater, prior to their departure for the Lower Hutt. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the

ladies, after which Mr. S. M. George spoke of the good work carried out by Mr. Slater during the time he was in charge of the Alfredton School. In wishing Mr. and Mrs. Slater health and prosperity in their new home, the speaker called upon Betty Edmonds (the youngest pupil) to hand the guests a dainty supper set to mark the appreciation and good feeling existing between the teacher, pupils and parents. The assemblage then sang “For They are Jolly Good Fellows.” Mr. Slater suitably replied on behalf of Mrs. Slater and himself, thanking all for the kindly thought and hoping on some future occasion to renew their friendship.
