COMPANY LAW.
ADDRESS BY MR. H. R. BISS. An address on a section of company law was given at last evening’s meeting of the Masterton Accountant Students’ Society by Mr. H. R. Biss, LL.B. The president (Mr. G. W. Sellar) occupied the chair. Mr. Biss gave an historical outline of the formation of companies from the early times to their present stage of development. As the subject of company law was too large to be dealt with in one evening in full, Mr. Biss confined his remarks more particularly to the borrowing powers of companies. His address was most comprehensive and interesting, not only to accountant students and members of the profession present, but also to the business community of Masterton, who were in attendance by invitation in fairly large numbers. At the close of his address, Mr. Biss answered a number of questions which had been submitted to him, in a very clear and concise manner and quoted leading cases in support of his statements. On the motion of Mr. Sellar, the speaker was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks by acclamation for his informative address. The next meeting of the society will be held iir a fortnight Is time, when a mock annual meeting of shareholders will be held; This meeting should draw a very good attendance as it will not only deal with technical points in regard to meetings and company accounts but will also be brimful of humour.
