The New Zealand Meat Producers Board has received the following cable from its London office, dated July 25, advising that the following are the approximate average wholesale prices per lb. realised for the week:—
New Zealand Sheep.— Canterbury and North Island selected crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 48/56, 4 7-8 d; 57/64, 4Jd; 65/72, 4 3-8 d; North Island, 48/56, 4 5-8 d; 57/64, 4Jd: 65/72, 4Jd; ewes, 48/64, 3d; 65/72, 2 7-Sd. New Zealand Lambs.— Canterbury, u/36, 9d; 37/42, Bfd; 43/50, 8 3-8 d; second quality, average 33, 7 3-8 d; other South Island brands, u/36, BJd; 37/42, B}d: 43/50, 8 3-8 d; selected North Island brands, u/36, 9d; 37/42, 8 5-'Bd; 43/50, 8 3-Bd, second quality, average 31, 7 5-8 d; other North Island brands, Ist quality, u/36, 8 3-Bd, 87/42, BJd; 2nd quality, average 31, 7 3-Bd. Prime Baconer Pigs, 121/180, 646. Lambs.—Market is firmer for heavyweights and best quality. Second quality slightly weaker through competition heavy stocks South American. Mutton Market.—Wethers firmer at better prices. Ewes also in better demand at higher prices. New Zealand Beef.—Meeting better demand owing to higher prices ruling for Argentine chilled beef. New Zealand Pigs.-^Porkers: In poor demand; nominal prices; baeoners, market is quiet owing to lower prices Continental bacon.
