MASTERTON HARRIERS.

SATURDAY’S OPEN HANDICAP ' RACE. VISIT TO MAURICEVILLE. At the kind invitation of Mr. lan Cameron (club president) about forty members of the Masterton Harrier Club journeyed to his residence at Mauriceville on Saturday, and there participated in an open handicap race over a distance of four and a half miles. A real harrier trail was laid by Mr. L Cameron and Mr. L. A. Keats (handicapper), who, having in view the benefit the runners would derive, laid the paper over hill and dale, a fact that was much appreciated by the competitors. When the stains of battle had been removed the members were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr. and Mrs. Cameron. The floor was then cleared and with Mr. H. Hood presiding at the piano, the boys, led by Messrs J. Hunter and H. Boys, gave an enjoyable rendering of the more pOpu- , lar songs, old and new. Mr. 8. Carr (club captain) in a short speech thanked Mr. and Mrs Cameron for their kind hospitality, which Mr. Kitchener endorsed. Mr. Cameron in replying, stated that he felt it a pleasure to be associated with the club and that he felt certain that more would be heard of jtu. members in the near future. - < trophies won were then present Mrs. Shaw to J. Mac Kay (Ist) and A. Crookenden (2nd) and were complimented by her on their victory. The afternoon was much appreciated by all and closed with a lusty rendering of * “For They are Jolly Good Fellows” and “Auld Lang Syne.” The members wish to express their thanks to Mr. H. Hood, who so kindly gave his services and helped to make the afternoon an undoubted success. The result of Saturday’s event was as follows:—J. MacKay (handicap Tmin.) 1; A. Crookenden, 2; L. Rutherfurd, fastest time, 26min 30sec.
