CHRISTCHURCH, August 7. The national market was held) at Addington to-day, when there ,was a great showing of fat stock. Lines of cattle came from the Wairarapa, Manawatu, and Wanganui districts and from South Otago South Canterbury and the West Coast and fat sheep from Hawke’s Bay. The sale was a good one for all fat stock. Store 'Sheep.—The entry comprised indifferent ewes for the main part, and prices eased for them by up to 2/ a head and by 1/6 for hoggets. Extra good two-toothed halfbred ewes made 38/ to 41/4, extra good two-toothed three-quarter-bred ewes to 39/3, good two-toothed three quarter-bred ewes to 35/, good four, six and eight-toothed halfbred ewes 29/6 to 33/3, sound and failing mouthed halfbred, ewes 23/ to 27/6, aged and inferior halfbred ewes 14/6 to 19/6, extra good four-toothed crossbred ewes to 42/, good soundmouthed crossbred ewes £9/ to 33/6, sound and failing mouthed crossbred ewes 21/ to 23/, good crossbred ewe hoggets, to 28/, good halfbred ewe hoggets to 26/, good crossbred! wether hoggets to 24/6. good half bred wethers to 23/, good crossbred wethers to 24/6. Spring Lambs.—About 20 were forward, which made from 35/ to 44/10 — about 1/6 a lb.

Fat Sheep. A record entry of about 7000 head. A sound demand was maintained to the finish with the best .of ■last week’s rates fully maintained Show sheep made to £4/6 and good heavy wethers from 45/ to 52/6; show wethers 57/6 to £4; extras heavy prime .wethers 46/ to 55/; prime heavy wether®, 41/ to 44/; medium, wethers, 35/ to 39/; light wethers, 29/6 to 34/; show ewes to 57/6; extra prime heavy ewes to 47/6; prime heavy ewes 34/ to 39/; medium ewes, 29/ to 33/6; lightewes, 22/6 to 28/; extra good hoggets to 48/; prime hoggets, 34/ to 38/; medium hoggets, 29/ to 33/; light hoggets, 21/ to 28/. Fat Cattle.—62o yarded, the entry including a good display of show cattle. Top prices were £5l and £46, secured by P. Anderson (Stirling) for two bullocks, £42 for a bullock from Methven, £4O for one from Masterton, and £36 for one from Palmerston Nth. A line of 24 from D. McKenzie (Masterton) averaged £26/9/6; and one of 16 from T. A. Duncan (Hunterville), £25. Excepting for occasional pens of exceptional quality which sold beyond commercial values, rates per 1001 b. were approximately as follow: Best ox beef, to 54/; good, 49/ to 52; medium quality, 44/ to 47/: heavy, 42/6 to 46/; good cows and secondary heifers, 41/ to 44/; and inferior down to 35/ per 1001 b. Young Shorthorn cows made to £9/13, -12 to 18-months heifers to £6/12, two-year heifers to £7/7/6, and bulls to £B/6. Dairy Cattle.—A small entry and a moderate sale. Best cows made to £l6 10/ and best heifers to £l5. Fat Pigs.—A good sale. Choppers made to £lO/3/6, baconers £3/6 to £4 12/6 (average price par lb. 6|d to 7d.); porkers 38/6 to £3/6/6 (average price per’lb. 7sd to 9d.). Store Pigs.—A slack sale.
