HERD TESTING.

FORMATION OF NEW GROUP AT EKETAHUNA. TOTAL OF 1339 COWS OFFERED. At a well-attended and enthusiastic meeting yesterday of a special committee, under the auspices of the Eketahnoa Branch of the Farmers’ Union, it was decided to form a herd-testing group in the Eketahttna district. Mr. C. T. Richardson presided and Mr. James Watson, Provincial Secretary of the Farmers’ Union, was also present. It was reported that 24 group herds, with about 1250 cows and five association or individual herds, with 130 cows, were offered, being a total of about 1380 cows. It was also stated that several more herds were available and the prospects of the new group were considered to be excellent. The members present were most enthusiastically in favour of testing on modern and approved lines. A meeting of members of the newlyformed group will be held next week to decide whether the group shall affiliate with the Wairarapa Association or the Bush-Horowhenna Association.
