MORE BIG SHAKES.

WESTPORT RESIDENTS AGAIN DISTURBED. HOUSES DESPERATELY SHAKEN. IS THE WORST OVER? WESTPORT, July 3. Quite a number of big ’quakes occurred to-day, and again this evening, the biggest and most sustained being that at 5.57 p.m., which gave the houses a desperate worrying. It leaves few people uncertain whether the worst is over or has yet to come. Captain Burrell and Corporal Smith, the latter a mechanic, returned this afternoon from Karamea, where they fitted on a wing to the damaged ’plane. KAt the Borough Council meeting this evening the Prime Minister was heartily thanked for the generous way in which the Government had come to the assistance of the distressed districts. A hearty vote of thanks was also accorded to all from whom donations had received and were being received, of sympathy were passed the relatives of those who lost lives in the disaster, there being i n this district, Russell and his SfK son, Chamley and McAllister. The first two were apparently overwhelmed by a landslide, and the last two were killed in the mines.—(P.A.)
