Fifteen thousand spectators at- I tended in sultry and threatening weather to witness the English Eleven’s last appearance in Australia. The English batting was painfully slow until the barracking crowd provoked Hendren to hit ' out. He was wildly cheered on i making 14 in one over. Mead, who took 144 minutes to make 41, attempted to emulate Hendren, failed, and retired, to the delight of the spectators. Hendren’s 33 included two sixes and one four. The tail quickly fell. The innings lasted 307 minutes and realised 241. Westralia opened badly, but Horrocks and Ryder provided the brightest feature of the match, quickly securing over a century. Ryder carried his bet fqr 83, which included three sixes. The J match was drawn, when Westralia’s '-score stood at three for 186. Replying to presentations on the ground. White, the captain, and Toone, the manager, declared that they had spent five strenuous months in a happy country, where the sunshine was only equalled by the .smiles of the people. The Englishmen play a Soccer game on Monday. On Tuesday they will be playing deck billiards.— (Australian Press Association.)
