Mrs J. V.. Gordon has returned to Masterton from a holiday in the South Island Mrs W. Candy of Carterton, and Mias E. Wiekens, of Masterton. are spending a holiday at the Bounds. Mr A. D. MeKtoluy 8.A., who ha* resigned from the staff of the Wairarapa High School on account of illhealith and is leaving to take up his nesidenoe in Wellington, was farewelled and entertained at afternoon tea by - members of the staff. On behalf of his colleagues, Mr G. W. Morice B.Sc., presented Mr McKinley with a clock as a parting gift and expressed their good wishes for his future. Mr McKinley suitably replied. The many friends of Mrs Marie L. Herbert, widow of the late Mr A. C. Herbert, will regret to learn of her death which occurred at her late residence, Wrigley Street, Masterton, yeotorday morning. The deceased suffered >a severe seizure on Tueoday. The late [Mrs Herbert was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W. Wright, of Poa <garoa, and was born at A-kitio 50 years ago. She was very well known and reepeetod in Pongsiroa and district where her late husband was engaged in farming for 23 years. Mrs Herbert had refdded in Masterton for the past six '(years where she had made many friends by her sincere and kindly manner. Three daughters are left to mourn their lose—Mrs V. H. Heath, Mastertan; Mrs B. Pinn, Pimgeroa and Mrs N. Moynihan, of Pongaroa. and they wilt have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their sad bereavement. The funeral will take place at Pongaroe to-day at 2.30 p.m.
