FARMERS’ UNION RESOLUTION OF PROTEST SOUTHERN BRANCHES SUPPORT DOMINION EXECUTIVE DUNEDIN, March 2L The Otago Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Fanners’ Union devoted some time to-day to the consideration of the question of junior high schools. A letter was received from the secretary of the Southland Provincial (Executive, who stated that that organisation had decided to support the Dominion Executive amj make strong re presentst<nns against the eetabalishjinieiit of the proposed system. The .Otago Executive was asked to support ;thc following resolution, which had (been passed unanimously by the Southland Executive: “That we strongly ‘support the resolution passed by the action regarding the proposal to establish junior high schools, and , further that we approach local members 'of Parliament with a view to securing their assistance.” It was decided to support the esolution passed by the [Southland Executive. The opinion of speakers was that the eotablishmeat of junior high schools would work greatly to the disadvantage of small country schools, especially as they would lose the services of the most highly qualified teachers.—-(P.A.)
