RAM FAIR.

ANNUAL ADDINGTON SALE. DEMAND FOR ROMNEYS. CHRISTCHURCH, March 21. The annual ram fair was held to-day at the Addington showgrounds, when flock rams were offered. There wag a strong demand for English Leicesters, which advanced three to four guineas on last year’s prices, when also the demand was notably stronger than the previous year. Although the entry was over a thousand head, there was a sustained demand, rams selling freely at Bgns to llgns. The top price was 17 gns. Borders were also in demand, 138 being offered. The bulk sold at Signs to 9}gns, the top price being llgns. The entry of Romneys totalled 98, some of good quality. The top price wag 174 gns. A number sold at from llgns to 14gns. Last year not a single Romney was sold at auction, so that the demand for the breed was noteworthy. The entry of Downs was small, owing to a fair for these sheep being held in January. The bulk of the Southdowns brought Bgns to llgns., top price being 15gns. Corriedales, of which the entry was 1475, sold slowly, passings being frequent, due doubtless to the state of the wool market. The average rates were 4gns to Bgns, and the top price 12Jgns. There was a slack demand also for halfbreds, fifty per cent, of the entry of 179 being passed. The top price was 12gns.—(P.A.)
