SERIOUS CHARGE.
I • : s SEQUEL TO PAPANUI SENSATION ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER CHRISTCHURCH, March 21. Frederick Richardson (56), a market t gardener, was charged to-day with at- . tempted murder of John Armstrong . (42) at Papsumi on March 8. He pleaded not guilty, and. was committed . for trial. Bail was not allowed. Armstrong has completely recovered. J Armstrong, giving evidence, said that after an- argument about who had left a certain gate open tho accused said that witness was a “D liar” and witness replied that the accused was the same. “The accused told me to get off the place or he would shift me,” continued witness. “I shut his gate as I left and walked down the lane holding the hand of Mr Bartlett’s little girl. I was going towards Bartlett’s gate, when, turning round, I (saw the accused with a gun up to his shoulder. He fired and I got it ia the ■reck and shoulder.” A detective said that when he arrestied -the accused, the accused' stated’: i“Yes, I shot him. I did not know that i was his name. How js he? Where -lid fl get him?” Richardson denied that .he attempted to eommii murder.— , (P-A.)
