SCHOOL PICNIC.
GATHERING AT GLADSTONE ENJOYABLE DAY The annual picnic of the Gladstone School was held at “Callon Hill,” Gladstone, on Friday, March 15. A large number of children and adults were present and an enjoyable day was spent by all, especially as the weather was so ideal. Single ladies: Miss Emma Panapa, 1; Miss Annie O’Brien, 2. Married ladies: Mrs Waters, 1; Mrs R. Atkinson, 2. Single men’s: A.. McKay, 1; J. Rem, 2. Married men’s: R. Atkinson, 1; C. O’Brien, 2. At the termination of the sporting events, Mrs J. K. Strang, wife ef the chairman of the School Committee, presented each scholar with a book prize and also distributed the prizes to the winners of the various races. Mr Atkinson then called for cheers for Mrs. Strang and also for the School Committee, whom, he said, had done so much to make the picmiic a success. Mr O’Brien called for cheers for the 'schoolmaster (Air Atkinson). I In the evening a successful! dance was held in the Gladstone Town Hall, the proceeds of which went toward the • school funds.
