COUNCIL OF STATE
PROTEST BY THE IRISH GOVERNMENT. QUESTION FOR IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. SUPPORT FROM DOMINIONS EXPECTED. United Press Association.—By Elaeuia Telegraph—Copy ri gn t. (Received Monday, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 17. The “Daily Chronicle" states that it has been revealed in Dublin that the Free State has challenged the constitution of the Council of State acting during the King 's illness. Directly the decision was announced, Mr. Coegrave’s Cabinet entered a strong protest, because it had not been consulted. It maintained that the Council should consist either of the Boyal Family alone, or else of certain representatives of the British Empire and not solely of one constituent of the Empire. The “Chronicle” adds that the question will be raised at the next Imperial Conference, also that of the Regency, when it is believed that other Dominions will support the Free State. Apart from the protest, the Free State Cabinet has refused to allow the aig- . nature of any but members of the Royal Family to appear upon any docs- , ment originating from Dublin. It is recalled that there was a similar dispute between the Irish and British Parliaments over the Regency during the madness of George the Third, when the Irish Parliament supported the claim of the Prince of Wales to become Regent de jure.—(Australian Press Association.)
