EVADING ARREST.
THIEF SHOT DEAD BY POLICE IN MELBOURNE MELBOURNE, March IS. Complaints cf thieving at Zander’s Tannery, North Melbourne, caused the police to hide. When they saw twoyoung men jump the fence and commence to steal skins, thio police pursued them and fired shots. One man fell mortally wounded. The other continued his flight, but was eventually captured, not before severely injuring his knee The dead man was Clarence Tylie, aged 21. The other mam arrested was 'Alfred Floyd, aged 21.—(Australian Press Association.)
