L FAILURE TO ERADICATE e PEST r TWO RESIDENTS FINED s “These cases may seem trivals, but 0 wo want people to realise that if they 1 are not prepared to look after their trees they have to get rid oif them,” said tho Government Orchardist at Masterton, Mr J. W. Whelan, wher s Harry Nicholson and Lloyd Jones were charged in the Magistrate’s Court yenterdsy with failing to eradicate oodlin moth from their orchards. Mr Whelan '■ said that both defendant, had a few ’ trees only, but with one or two affected it was possible for a large area to be ■ diseased. He had inspected the orchards of both defendants in October ! last, and later served them with notice ■to control the diseased trees. Nothing, uowev er, had been done. Both, defendants were each convicted tad fined £? each and co®ta, the Magistrate, Mr J. Miller, Temarking to r.hem that their neglect might mean f *he contamination of a large number of ' trees around about their orchards
