FATAL CRASH

WHITE’S TRIPLEX MACHINE WRECKED. TRAVELLING. AT SPEED OF 200 MILES SEGRAVE’S RIVAL KILLED DAYTONA BEACH, March. 13. The J. M. White Triplex special racing car, driven hy Lee Bible, in attempting to beat the world’s speed record of 231 miles an hour set up by Major H. O. D. Segrave, crashed into the sand dunes and was wrecked. Bible was killed. A photographer was struck by the car and cut in to. The Triplex was travelling at over 200 miles an hour at the time. The crash occurred when Bible, inexperienced in speeding on this stretch, sent the bar too near the surf. He attempted to swerve back towards the stands, but turned the wheel too sharply, and the Triplex capsized like a toy motor against a sand dune.—(Australian Press Association.) NO FURTHER AMBITION.
