MEETING OF MASTERTON COUNCIL ADDITIONAL HIGHWAY DESIRED The monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held yesterday, the chairman, Councillor J. W. A. Falloon presiding There were also present, Councillors J. Judd, J. McGillicuddy, G. Moore and F. E. Dorset. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £4084 7s 80. The receipts since last meeting totalled £3437 13s S>d, including rate subsidy £1875 and •grants £1132. Riding balances were reported, as follow: Opaki, credit. £491 12s 90; Rangitumau, credit, £656 Is Id; Upper Taueni. credit, £476 Is Id; Te Whiti, credit £925 8s 80; Uriti, credit, £l6B Is 2d; sYainuioru, credit, £427 18s 3d. The Clork, Mr J. C. D. Mackley, reported that he had written to the Eketahuna and Mauriceville County Councils, asking their support to have the Opaki-Eketahuna via Mauriceville Road declared a main highway. The plans forwarded by the Chief Surveyor, of the Te Ore Orc-Bidcford Highway deviation were confirmed for proclamation. The organising secretary of the Wairarapa Progress League wrote thanking the council for the interest it had taken in the movement.

OVERSEER’S REPORT The overseer, Mr B. L. Larson, reported. as follow:— Opaki Biding. Wellington-Napier Highway: The decking on the Mount Bruce suspension Bridge has been ovorand replaced where necessary. One half of the bridge has been redecked and the best of the- old decking uised in the other half. Wheel planks, have been laid for the •entire length of the bridge. Rnngitumau Riding. The road improvement filling between the 4 and 5 mile pegs has been metalled with crusher run gravel. The regrading and widening between the 3 and 4 pees, which was held up .by wet weather has been completed with the exception of the necessary filling. Uriti Riding. Blairlogie-East Coast Road: Concrete culverts have been put in in various places. Bisctfit Creek culvert: A temporary bridge 25 feet long and 12 ft wide has been erected in readiness for the 'Cirection of the new culvert. Blairlogie HUI deviation: Good progress is being made in connection w-ith this contract. Homewood Road: The surfaceman and an extra man have been engaged widening the Waihora Hill and timbering up the slips. Wainuioru Riding. Ngahapo Road: Contract No. 581. Good progress has beta made with this contract; approximately 15 chains requires to be metalled to* complete the work to Summer's House. Ngaumu Road: Contract No. 604: J. Kelly has made good progress with this contract, 5 chains remaining to bo completed out of a total of 36. Master!on-Tinui surface sealing: The final seal coat has been placed on 90 chains of this work; spraying has been interrupted by wet weather; Jin to' {in. chips are being used, 3 cubic yards per chain.
