WOOL MARKET

VERY SATISFACTORY SALE IN DUNEDIN. SLIGHT EASING IN PRICES. DUNEDIN, Marek 12. The third Dunedin wool sale of the season commenced this afternoon and was completed at a late hour. The total offering comprised 34,700 bales. There was a full bench of buyers present, representing all the wool consuming centres of the world. Competition was very keen at prices somewhat lower for medium qualities, while good wools met with a favourable market at prices almost on a par with the February sale in Dunedin.

Both halfbreds and crossbreds showing style sold at prices on a par with the last sale. The bulk of the offering of fine wools was purchased on account of the Continent, while Bradford secured the major portion of the crossbreds and the better grades of halfbreds. Buyers on account of America and Japan were not in evidence, while local mills have evidently almost completed securing their requirements and purchased sparingly. The catalogue contained a larger proportion of fine quality wool but showing a lot of condition, and the effect of a severe spring, being in many cases tender and showing discolouration. Notwithstanding a slight easing in prices, the sale must be considered a very satisfactory one, and passings were comparatively few. The official range of prices, as compared with the February sale, are as follow, February prices in parentheses:— Merino.— ; 64/70, 60/64, super 18Jd to 21d (18d to 20fd); average, 15jd to 17d (l’6d to 17d); inferior, 14d to 15|d (14|d to 15Ad).
