e SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS. - ■ t (“The Age” Special) £ The interment of the late Mr Claude - H. Olson, of Carterton, took place on Monday afternoon at the Clareville s Cemetery. A short service was held in - St. Mark’s Church, and also at the T graveside by the Rev. W. Raine. At the . church and the graveside a contingent 1 of schoolboys formed l a guard of bon- ■* our through the ranks of which the casket was slowly borne. The casket 8 bearers were Messrs A. and F. Olson, . S. Hawker, S. V. Gooding, H. McPhee, r and Bran. Included in the many floral - emblems were wreaths from, the Mas- , terton branch of the Educational In--1 stitute. and the pupils, staff and committee of the Carterton District High School. Druids* Lodge. At a meeting of Totara Lodge, U.A. 0.D., on Monday evening, Bros. R. •Smith and R. Arrtistromg were appointed judges from the lodge for the halfyearly ritual competition in April. Bro. C. Reid and I. A. Hart were appointed to select teams for the forthcoming ■ Friendly societies’ football : tournament. Bros. C. Reid will represent the lodge at the Grand Lodge meeting in Wellington on Monday next.

Mr Earle Viles, Featherston, is to enter Dr. Sharpe’s Hospital! to undergo an operation for appendicitis. Croquet. Furthed games played in connection with the B grade championship of the Featherston Croquet Club are as follows: Mrs Holland beat Mrs Edwards, 24-26, 26-24, 26-23; Mrs 'iSaunders beat Mrs Holland 26-24, 26-13. Mrs Saunders, winner of the first life, met Miss Vincent in the final for the second life, which resulted as follows:. Mrs Saunders, 21-26-26; Miss Vincent 26-20 15. Mrs Saunders is now winner of the B grade championship and , Wakely Bowl. Miss Vincent and Mrs Edwards have still to play off for the runner-up. Garden Fete. The garden fete held at “Longwood” on Saturday was a great success and 'as a result the Plunket Society funds should be increased by about £2OO. The takings were £2lO, £B4 of which was taken at ike produce stall. A feature of the day was the dancing on the lawn by the Orosa Creek children which reflected great credit on Mr and Mrs King, their instructors. The side-<shows were well ■patronised, as well as the afternoon ten rooms. In the competitions Miss Warwick won the box of chocolates for estimating the length of -string, Mrs R. N. Barton a bag of sugar; Miss E. Burl a box of chocolates (produce stall), and Mrs Nelson a cake. In golf putting Messrs Stubbs "and Pharazyn tied and in the play-off the former won. Great credit is due to all those who helped to make the function a success and particularly to Miss Currie, the secretary. The society is also under a great debt of gratitude to Mr and Mrsi Riddiford for—so kindly placing their beautiful • gardens at their disposal, with such splendid resulJS.
