POWER SUPPLY.

MEETING OF THE WAIRARAPA BOARD LOAD & REVENUE FACTORS The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board was held at Carterton yesterday, (Mr. J. W. Kershaw (chairman) presiding. There were also present: Messrs T. V. Moore, W. A. Tate, W. Benton, A. C. Pearce, W. Howard Booth, H. P. Hugo and R. J King. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. D. McLachlan. The Secretary-Manager (Mr. G. Brown) reported; that there had again been a satisfactory increase in the revenue for July compared with July of last year. The gross revenue from ordinary consumers increased by £697 15« lOd and the net revenue by £575 10s 3d. The estimated revenue increase for the year was £3OOO. The actual increase for the four months ending July 31 (taking into account an amount of £4OB charged up to sundry consumers last year to correct their meter readings) was £1350 Ils 7d. The position so far was entirely satisfactory, and the estimate of revenue for the year should be exceeded by a substantial amount. Definite advice had been received from the Masterton Telephone Society that it was not proceeding further with its claim in connection with converting to metallic circuit the To WhitiLongbush telephone line. All the preliminary arrangements had been made in connection with the proposed legislation in relation to the purchase of land at Kourarau and in connection with the proposal to use for construction work any portion of the Installation Loan not required for the purpose for which it was raised. Steps were being taken to take under the Public Works Act the land at Kourarau owned by Mitai Mikaera. At a meeting of settlers interested, guarantees sufficient to warrant the pro-posed Bideford extension .were promised and. the necessary petition to include that district in the Inner Area wsts -sighted by the ratepayers present. It was also decided at the meeting that steps be taken .to get the Post and Telegraph Department to* extend its line's to the terminating point of the proposed power lines. The amount of the guarantee is £475 per annum for ten years. There was a noticeable increase in the amount of installation work being carried out and especially in the number of enquiries received for information as to the guarantees required for extensions. The improved financial position of the country generally did) at last appear to be having some effect in this district and to the board. Twenty-eight new consumers were connected up during July. The connected load was increased during July by 78 K.W. and included 1 cooker, 5 water heaters and 2 motors.

LOAN STATISTICS The Resident Engineer (Mr. H. B. Keenan) stated in the course of 1 is report that load statistics for the month of July showed an increase in the power, from Mangahao of 301,850 units,as compared with 215,550 in July last year. This was an increase of 86,300 units. The corresponding figures for Kourarau were: 177,400 in July this, year and 228,030 in July last year, a decrease of 50,630 units. The load factor or Mangahao increased to 84 per cent, of the total as compared with 70 per cent, in July last year. These figures, the engineer observed, indicated a very satisfactory condition, due to a large extent, to the high, degree of efficiency now reached in the substation and powerhouse supervision and operation, as was bolrne out by comparison of load factor on the Mangahao supply.
