EURHYTHMIES.

DEMONSTRATION ON FRIDAY The Dejcroze system of eurhythmies is one of the most noteworthy developments in modern educational practice, and corresponding interest attache® to the demonstration to be given in the St. Matthew’s Parish Hall on Friday evening by Miss Eileen Russell L.R. A.M. and her pupils. Eurhythmies is much, more than a graceful art akin to dancing. It makes a direct appeal to and develops the sense of rhythm that is latent in all human beings, and has proved itself in practice a potent means of cultivating both body and mind. One very important purpose of eurhythmies is to provide an assured foundation for musical education and development, but the system is directed also to the development of human faculties from the broadest standpoint. The few qualified teachers of eurhythmies in sew Zealand are engaged as yet in pioneer work, but Miss Russell was able to show last year that even at this early stage notable results are being attained. No doubt the demonstration to be given on Friday evening will be even more interesting, in itself and as an indication of the possibilities inherent in what Miss 'Sybil Thorndyke has called the greatest of the arts. The demonstration is the more likely to be well attended since the proceeds are to go to the fund for the improvements of the grounds of the St. Matthew’s Collegiate School.
