The Southern Cross, which left Point Cook, Melbourne, at noon yesterday for Perth passed through a heavy rainstorm during the night but at two this morning was going well. While the storm was at its worst, the ’plane had to fly blind for a time, but the latest wireless to the Sydney “Sun” reported all well, but cold.—(Australian Press Association.) WARNER’S FATHER FOUND AFTER THIRTY YEARS SAN FRANCISCO, August 10. It is announced that the father of James Warner, supposed' to hav ■ died thirty years ago, still lives. Captain Kingford Smith’s companion recently received a letter signed “Charles Warner,” which said: “Please tome and see me. I’m ill. I think I am your father.” James Warner hurriedly visited Oregon and found his parent who, thirty years ago, had quarrelled with his wife and left her and five children in the Kansas Orphan Asylum.
