WOOL FROM RAGS.
NEW MACHINE ON TRIAL IN LONDON (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 11. A demonstration has been given inLandon of the new machine for the recovery of woollen fibres. The invention is by Dr. Thompson, of Los Angeles. He claims that it is a vast improvement on the rag picker now used in the manufacture of shoddy. It produces a superior fibre called “ravel wool,” which makes up into material of good quality and soft texture, having a greater textile strength than shoddy. The unravelled can run with seven and a half horsepower, compared with twenty required for the old rag picker, because there is no grinding of the rags.—(Australian Press Association.)
