OBITUARY.

MR. W. A. KITCHEN. The death occurred suddenly at Carterton yesterday afternoon of Mr William Arthur Kitchen, manager of the 'drapery department of the Carterton branch of the W.F.CA.. Ltd. The deceased was following his usual duties ->■ When he suffered ji heart seizure and expired almost immediately. The late Mr Kitchen had not enjoyed the best of health for some months past. As he had been under medical attention for heart trouble an inquest will not be necessary.- The deceased was one of the best known citizens of Carterton, where he had resided for many years, and was held in high esteem. For upwards of 34 years, practically from the inception of the W.F.C.A. ’s trading operations in Carterton, he had been associated with the drapery portion of the business. He was a Justice of the Peace and took an active interest in all matters promoted for the good of the town. At intervals Mr Kitchen served on the Borough Council and the school committee, being chairman of the latter body for a period. He was also a past W.M. of St. Mark’s Masonic Lodge, and was associated with St. Mark’s Church as a warden and lay reader, positions he found necessary to relinquish a year or so ago owing to ill health. The late Mr Kitchen was 65 years of age, and leaves a widow and one son, who have the sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement. The interment will take place on Saturday afternoon.
