Drunken Governors SYMPTOMS.—PIaying out of tune, or making a burring sound, even to loud rumblings. This fault may bo caused by: (1) Using gummy oil; (2) insufficient oil; (3) dust or small particles of brass worked into the collar from the lock screw, or uneven tension on governor springs. The former trouble will be overcome by cleaning with, benzine and working fresh oil through the governor collar. This is best accomplished by letting all power off the main springs and then turning main spindle backwards and forwards while dropping fine oil on governor spindle at each end. This motion draws the oil through the collar. Uneven tension — loosen springs on brake end, pull them evenly, then tighten screws gradually. If unsuccessful, replace with new springs of correct gauge. To remove brass dust—take spindle out of governors and agitate in benzine bath with lock screw out and remove flakes with soft stick.
