WAINGAWA SAVES WAIRARAPA.
WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED. Not less than 150,000 sheep and lambs and 3000 head of cattle were expeditiously handled during tho month of February by the Waingawa Freezing: Works. If Waingawa had not been open, it is impossible to imagine the confusion and loss which would have ben inevitable owing to the hold-up which occi-r--red in Wellington. Farmers will remember that some slight diffmence with the men resulted in thousands of sheep 'being held up to the comternation of those farmers who had »'espatched their stock down to the port. If tho large numbers of sheep and cattle handled by Waingawa ha-l been piled on to the other existing works, they could not have been handled at all. Fortunately, such a happening was avoided by the operations of Waingawa. Farmers at al’ times should support. their local freezing works, which, retained under qficient control, will mean more competitive buying and greater prosperity all round.*
