UNITED WITNESS.

IMPRESSIVE SERVICE IN TOWN HALL The Service of United Witness, arranged by the Ministers’ Association, was held in tho Municipal Hall last evening and was very largely attended. The Rev. J. Cocker presided and with him on tho platform were the Revs. W. Bullock, J. Davie, S. Keen, E. W. Weymouth, and Commandant Simpson. The hymns, “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,” “Man of Sorrows! What a Name!” “Rock of Ages,” “Crown Him with Many Crowns” were feelingly sung by the large congregation. The hymns, “Rock of Ages,” Tendered by Mrs Bosowarne, and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,” rendered by Mr Jones, were in thorough, keeping with the service and assisted the worshippers. Prayer was offered by the chairman. The Rev. S. Keen descriptively related the story of the Day of Atonement us shown in the mystery and symbol of the 'Scapegoat, referred to in Loviticus 16:22. Following this, reference was made to Christ following in the way of sinners, bearing their sins in atonement and with a broken heart, that they might be justified before God. Mr Keen concluded his address by appealing for a heartfelt response to the sacrificial love of Jeaus. The Rev. J. Davie, 'speaking on Acts 9 1 and 2, referred to th“ fact that Christian disciples at tho bcg ; nning were called men and women of “The Way.” It was noted that Jesus Christ Himself was the Way to God, the Way to conduct and practical living, the Way to the Infinite and Eternal God. Enlarging on these truths, Mr Davie drew the congregation’s attention to the fact behind Jesus, viz., Love, the love of God, which gave Jesus, which exercised Jesus throughout His ministry to His death. Following this, it was emphasised that the supreme motive power of all Christian living is love, and into this love, in loyal response to Jesus, tho preacher earnestly invited the people.

The Feilding Salvation Army Band, Which is visiting Masterton, attended the service and with groat effect led the singing and contributed other items.
