BAND CONTESTS.
SOME PROBLEMS OF FINANCE. CHRISTCHURCH, April 4. At a meeting of the Band Contest Committee, the chairman (Mr. 11. F. Herbert) said that thirty-five brass bands entered for the contest, but on account of financial difficulties only fourteen came. There should he a brass bands fund to help bands to attend contests. It was not right that bands should have to collect money to take them to the centre in which the contest was held. Mr. Andrews said that the entrance foes should be greit’y increased, a.'d part handed back to the bands, that came. It wes decided to recommend the eviulh Island Bands Association r.r. consider Mr. Andrews’s suggestion — (P.A.)
