WAIRARAPA EXHIBITION. SPEAKERS INVITED. OUTLINE OF ENTERTAINMENTS. Considerable progress was reported at a meeting last evening of the Wairarapa Industrial Exhibition Committee. The various cotti rnittees submitted detailed accounts of their recent deliberations, and arrangements for the display were advanced to a very satisfactory stage. Mr J. H. Handyside presided over a large attendance. . Mr. D. N. Edwards reported that a had waited on a sub-com-Inittee of the Masterton Borough Counjcil regarding the use of the Municipal {Hall for the exhibition. It was pointed out by the deputation that there >as to be no charge for admission to the exhibition, but a charge would be made to the arts and antiques section. Councillor H. J. O’Leary informed the Reputation that the gas committee had felt that the exhibition committee should be allowed the use of the hall and gas free, but this was subject to the decision of the Hall Committee. TThe meeting decided to lodge a formal application to the council for permission to install electric lighting and Jjower lines. Mr. D. Mahoney, stationmaster at Masterton, waited on the meeting to discuss the possibility of arranging for excursions for Wairarapa and Bush echool children, and also for city visitors from Wellington. Mr. Mahoney - Was thanked for his information. The Entertainment Committee reported that it had submitted a tentative programme for the week in which it was proposed to have some form of mechanical music for afternoon sessions, and orchestral and band music, fashion parades and other forms of musical entertainment at night. The Bervices of the Savage Club minstrel troupe, and Misses N. Hugo and P. Clunies Ross are to be inquired after, ■while the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides companies are to be invited to stage demonstrations. PROMINENT SPEAKERS It was decided to invite the Hon. A. P. McLeod (Minister of Industries and Commerce) to open the exhibition on the evening of Monday, December 5, and to endeavour to arrange for Mr. L. H Beale, His Majesty’s Trade Commis«ier, to speak on the Wednesday ajpht, and the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) on Saturday, the closing night. Other speakers to be invited are the Hon. W. Downie Steware (Minister of Customs), Mr. H. E. Holland (Leader of the Opposition) Mr. _E. A. Ransom, M.P. for Pahiatua, Mr. G. R. Sykes, M.P. for Masterton, Mr. F. Campbell, President of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association and his executive, and the Mayors of Masterton, Eketahuna, Carterton. Grey*own, Featherston and Martinborough. The Entertainment Committee was authorised to negotiate with the Telegraph Department and the Radio Broadcasting Company for the broadcasting on relay of the speeches of the principal speakers each night. It was decided to permit trading from the various stalls at the exhibition providing each exhibitor observed the laws governing his particular busixi ess. The Advertising Committee was empowered to proceed with the publieawlrV 1 ' official catalogue and Mr W. T-. Knott was appointed publicity officer to control all the exhibition advertising. Messrs. J. H. Handyside, W. Palamontain and H. M. Boddington were appointed a deputation to wait on the Masterton Band regarding band concerts at some of the evening sessions. THE ART DISPLAY. COMMITTEES SET UP. .i. The meeting set up an executive committee and several sub-commit-tees. The latter are to hold early meetings and elect their chairmen.
