FARMING NOTES.
Wool grown in the United States during 1925 will total 249,888,000 pounds, according to a preliminary report of the Department of Agriculture; which represents an increase of 11,350,000 pounds over 1924. The average fleece this year is heavier than the stock 1924 fleece, averaging 7.48 pounds, compared with 7.4 pounds for 1924. The ’Austrlian Meat Council has decided to take every means short of compulsion to urge cattle owners to dehorn their stock, but it is recog- 1 nised that in certain districts it is not advisable to do this ps cattle use horns to break down scrub. A communication was received from the Cambridge University research branch stating that it believed that within a couple of years the authorities there would be able to show improved methods of freezing and even chilling meat, that are quite unknown to-day. The council resolved to ask the Commonwealth authorities to prohibit the export of ram and stag mutton altogether.
