A FINE EDIFICE.
NEW CATHOLIC CHURCH. AT PALMERSTON NORTH. PALMERSTON N., March 22.— After many years’ anticipation, the Roman Catholic parishioners saw a magnificent new church opened today, Archbishops Redwood-and O’Shea and many other church dignataries participating. The church, the erection of which occupied 20 months, is of Gothic design, with a lofty spiro about 180 feet high. „ It is calculated to fulfil the requirements of the parish for many years. It will seat from 1050 to 1100, leaving room for spacious aisles and a beautifully designed altar. The collection for the new church commenced 12 years ago. The site cost £7OOO, alteration to Presbytery £l9OO, new church with incidentals £32,000, the whole undertaking approximating £40,000. Only £12,500 remains unpaid.—(P.A.)
