LOOKING FOR GULLS.

DANGERS OF • VANCOUVER. VANCOUVER, March 16.—Mr A. J. Stallworthy, who arrived by the Makura from Auckland, has complained to the police that he was knocked unconscious by confidence men. Two alleged crooks showed him how they won £5OOO, and wanted him to cable to New Zealand for funds.

Mr Stallworthy arranged with a detective to arrest the two men. The latter apparently realised that they were shadowed, and during the absence of the policeman struck Mr Stallworthy down and escaped. Other well-to-do Australians and New Zealanders lately arriving at Vancouver and San Francisco have been watched from their arrival, and robbed by various, methods.—(A. and N.Z.)
