MUNICIPAL CROQUET.

PEOSPECTS FOE NEW GREENS. In response to a request from the Masterton Croquet Club that the Council should provide them with two greens in the Park near to one another, the Park. Committee last evening submitted a recommendation to the incoming Council that two croquet greens be laid down on the site between the ladies’ baths and the children’s playing area at an estimated cost of £2OO. A letter was received from the Croquet Club offering £3O to assist with the work.

Cr. W. Kemp, chairman of the Park Committee said he wished to carry'out the promises made to the club. If the work was left to the incoming Council it would be too late to commence. He favoured starting at once so that the greens could be played on next summer. He moved that the money be accepted and that the work be startcC at once

A plan submitted by the custodian to remove the children’s playground up on the grass behind the boatshep so as to allow the new greens to be laid down on the square, was rejected after a long debate between two members of the Park Committee. The greens will now be laid between the ladies’ baths and the present playground.
