BOWLING.

CHAMPION OF CHAMPION SINGLES. H. P. PEEEY AND J. FINLAYSON TIE. (Contributed.) The above championship was played at Carterton on Saturday under adverse conditions, the weather being very boisterous. Mr F. Tyler, one of the Centre representatives, welcomed the visitors. In his absence Mr. F. Wise did all possible to carry out the duties of the Centre, the players expressing appreciation of his efforts. It is much to be regretted that the officers of the Centre do not realise the importance of this event, and make it, as other centres do, a red letter day attended by most of the officials. The following players represented their Clubs: J. Finlayson (Park), H. P. Perry (Masterton), H. Carter (Greytown), Bolls (Featherson),. First Round. Eolls a bye. White v. Carter proved an easy win for the Carterton champion. Perry (Masterton) drew J. Finlayson (Park). Finlayson did not show colour until the Bth. head, when the game stood 10—1. On the 16th. he reduced the lead to 16—12. On the 17th. the Park representative held the shot and endeavouring to displace Perry’s second shot, cut. out his own bowl aud lost what chance he had of winning. Perry ran out a winner 21—13. Second Bound. White a bye. Perry v. Eolls proved a great surprise. Perry appeared to take the game as a foregone conclusion. On the 6th. head 'he was 7 to Eolls 2. Oh the 7th. Perry 7, Eolls 5. From this on Eolls settled down and drawing accurately to the jack, gained the advantage on the 17th. head 15—14. At the 18th. it was 16—14; the 19th. 19—14; the 20th. 19—16. Eolls proving the winner 20—16 put up a great performance, and deserved his win. Finlayson v. Carter proved an easy win for Finlayson, 21—13. Third Bound. Perry (Masterton) met White (Carterton). This was the star game of the afternoon, and from an onlooker’s point of view one of the best games witnessed. Both players were extended from the tB'OW of the jack. On the 9th head the game stood: Perry 9, White 6, and varied as under: 11th 9—10; I2th 12—10; 14tH 12—14; 18th 16—16; 19th 18—16; 20th 18—17; 21st 18—18. On playing the 21st head White lay 2 shots. Perry drove two bowls missing, but with his last he trailed the jack and lay the shot. White had six feet in which to save falling short. On playing off the extra head Perry lay 2 shots. White came down with a beautiful running shot, removing one of Perry’s bowls. Perry thus won by one shot after a strenuous game. 19—18. Fourth Bound. Perry a bye. Finlayson met and defeated White by 20—10. Bolls defeated Carter 22—9. Fifth Brand. Perry met and defeated Carter by a fair majority. White won against Bolls. Finlayson a bye. This leaves Perry (Maeterton) and Finlayson (Park) one loss each. This' will he played” off at a date suitable to the players.
