WAIRARAPA COURT.

AT WELLINGTON WINTER SHOW ("The Age" Special.)

The meeting convened for yesterday at Carterton by the Wairarapa P. qnd A. Society to consider the question of the Wairarapa court at the Wellington Winter Show was not largely attended. Disappointment was expressed at the apparent lack of en thusiasm. Mr J. G. Oates, president of . the Wairarapa Society, presided, and (here were also present Messrs L. H. Smart, A. J. Parton, H. Mortenson (Carterton), W. H. Buick and D Smith (Masterton), and J. Meikle (Greytown). ' Mt Smart stressed the importance Of making the Wairarapa. court worthy of the district. To do this finance was required. Eighteen dairy companies and 18 other industries had been advised of the meeting, and exhibits had been promised by a num het of dairy factories. The sesretary. of the Farmers’ Union wrote promising assistance. It was explained that the Wellington Association had fixed the space charge at Is per square foot, which was half the ordinary rate. At least 6flQ feet space would be required, ivhieli meant an expenditure of £3O ,ih addition to the expenses of staging, etc.

The representatives present pointed out that they were hot in a position to commit their organisations to any expenditure. In any case the A. and P. Associations could not be expected to contribute, as they had to canvass for funds for their own shows.

It was decided to write to the Wellington Show Association taking exception to a charge being made for space, and to point out that the Wairarapa was being invited to prepare a court which would be an attraction to the show, and of no trade gain to the exhibitors. If the reply is favourable the various dairy companies are to be asked to contribute £2 2s each towards the expenses, and other trade organisations for a donation. The towns are to be asked to arrange to provide funds as under—Masterton £lO, Carterton, Greytown, Featherston and Martinborough £5 each.
