BIG COMPANIES THE CULPRITS. DISCLOSURES IN UNITED STATES. WASHINGTON, Mar. ll.—How hundreds of millions of tax payments are alleged to have been evaded by big conporations was described before the Senate Committee. Senator Couzens started the enquiry, and now is himself being investigated on a charge that he still owes the Government 10,000,000 dollars overdue taxes on huge earnings in Ford stock.

Senator Couzens replied by calling Secretary Mellon to explain why the United States Steel Corporation was allowed to use the amortization scheme, which saved them 27 million dollars, and the Aluminium Company a third of that amount.

The Government has opened an action to recover groat oil properties leased by the former Secretary Fall. —(A. and N.Z.)
