WEDDING.

HUTCHISON-JOHNSTON. ("The Age” Special.) A wedding of considerable interest, not only to Wairarapa residents, but also to those of many other districts in New Zealand, was that of Beth, only daughter of Dr. and Mrs D. G. Johnston, of Carterton, to James Douglas, eldest son of Mr and Mrs James Hutchison, of Dunedin. The great popularity of the young couple was evidenced by the large crowd that assembled at St. Andrew's Church, Carterton, yesterday, for the ceremony, which was solemnised by the Rev. W. Bower Black, LL.B., formerly of Carterton, and now of Christchurch. The church had been' most artistically by girl friends of the bride, the colour scheme being delphinium blue and pale yellow. At the organ was Miss N. Armstrong. Entering the church on the arm of her father, the bride looked charming in an elegant gown of handsome French embossed marquisette, made in straight lines with long sleeves, and godet front panel to form an overskirt. A small side panel of ninon from the shoulder was finished with rows of ostrich trimming. The note of charm was completed by the original side train, draped from the left shoulder to the right side of the skirt, together with an under panel, both having a border of ostrich trimming to correspond with the gown. Her bouquet was of yellow and white earnations, and white antirrhinums and delphiniums, with maidenhair fern and white, and yellow streamers. Two bridesmaids, Miss Phyllis Murray, of Marlborough, Miss Margaret Whyte, of Wellington, and two little flower girls, Peggy Gunn (Gisborne) and Nancy Martin (Martinborough), looked very attractive in frocks of lemon crepe chiffon, representing the new “tube” gown, with flare flounce and trimmed with flowers of the same material. The bouquets of small blue delphiniums added much brightness. Mr R. B. Hart (Carterton) was best man, and Mr Maurice Smith (Woodville) was groomsman. After the ceremony over 200 guests were entertained at the beautiful residence of the bride’s parents, “Carrington Lodge,” where the decorations were most artistic. Masses of spring flowers adorned the hall and the drawing-room, where the numerous presents were on view, was a picture.
