TOWN v. COUNTRY

Mr K. Tucker (sole selector) has chosen the following team to represent the Town against the Country, in the match to be played at the Basin Reserve on Friday and Saturday:— D. C. Collins, captain (Old Boys), K. James (Old Boys), J. 8. Hiddleston (Wellington), A. Grant (Midland), W. A. Baker (Midland), J. S. Banks (Institute), F. T. Badcock (Institute), M. Henderson (Y.M.CJL), H. M. McGirr (Hutt), R. H.. Westbrook (Y.M.C. A.). Hiddleston and Westbrooke have been added to the team to practice in view of the Plunket Shield games. THE ENGLISH TEAM. FOR FIRST TEST. SYDNEY, Dec. 17.—The English test team is as follows:— Gilligan (captain), Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Hendren, Chapman, Hearne, Woolley, Tate, Freeman, Strudwick, Sandham. -(P.A.) Criticism of English Team. LONDON, Dec. 16.—The cricket expert of “The Timos'' expresses surprise that Tyldesley has been left out of the Test team. The writer agrees that Gilligan has chosen a strong batting team, but doubts whether five bowlers will- prove sufficient, especi ally with the eight-ball over. He thinks that Gilligan has been a trifle too venturesome.—(“Times.”) ENGLISHMEN IN AFRICA. MATCH WITH TRANSVAAL. CAPETOWN, Dec. 16.—A threc-day match has been commenced against the Transvaal who made 109 in the Ist innings. Kennedy took 6 for 46, and Parker 4 for 35.
