SHARING TREASURES.

LOANS OF WORKS OF ART.

TO BIND THE PEOPLES.

(Recd. 9.35 p.m.)

LONDON, Dec. 16.—Sir Robert Witt, Trustee of the National Gallery, speaking at the Author’s Club dinner, said “We have no power to loan works of art to the Dominions, but I can think of nothing better calculated to bind the peoples together than sharing the best treasures. The Domions at present are poor in works of art. ’ ’

He suggested that Parliament be asked to grant the necessary powers. —(A. and N.Z.)
