FRENCH POLITICAL INTRIGUE.

A WAR-TIME PRECAUTION.

(Received 7.45 p.m.)

PARIS, Dec. 15.—1 n a discussion in the Chamber on a clause in the Amnesty Law concerning M. Malvy and M. Caillaux, M. Malvy made a revelation in regard to the late French Government’s connection with the defeatist newspaper “Bonnet Rouge,” whose director, M. Almeyrcda, died in prison.

M. Malvy said he did nothing with regard to the “Bonnet Rouge,” which was known to, and approved by, the Government of the day. He was now released from a promise he made to M. Viviani. He paid M. Almeyreda subsidies, after discussion by the Council of Ministers, presided over by M. Poincare, which considered it better in the interests of national defence to take under its wing the paper which influenced a certain part of the population. M. Malvy added that M. Viviani gave him 20,000 franc* for Almeyreda, made up of 10,000 each from M. Millerand, who was then Minister of War, and M. Delcasse, the Foreign Minister.—(A. and N.Z.)
