BUILDING SOCIETIES.

WORKMEN’S FRIEND. The monthly meeting of directors of the Workmen’s Friend Building Society (No. 1) was held last evening. Mr F. J. Hunn (vice-chairman) presided and there were also present Messrs T. B. Braggins, W. H. Jackson, T. Jenkins, R. E. Jones, H. J. O ’Leary, and A. E. Winzenberg. Routine business was transacted and transfer of two shares was approved. It was resolved to hold an appropriation of £3OO by ballot on June 4, and the financial position of the Society was reported to be Satisfactory. Leave of absence was granted to the chairman (Mr A. B. Wood) during his visit to England. The monthly meeting of No. 2 Society was held afterwards, tne same directors being present. Application for one share was approved and routine business was transacted. It was reported that moneys were coming in freely and that a ballot .would shortly be held. A few shares ate still available for intending members. An extraordinary general meeting of memmbers of the Workmen's Friend Building Society (No. 1) was held for the appropriation of £3OO by sale. The highest tender was £6O for £3OO which was accepted. At the No. 2 Building Society for the appropriation of £4OO by sale, the highest tender Was £166 2/ for £4OO, watch was accepted.
